Middle East Eye revealed that Ibrahim Dbeibah, Libya’s National Security Advisor and cousin of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, held secret talks with Israeli officials over a plan to resettle hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians from Gaza in Libya.
In return, the United States reportedly offered to release around $30 billion of Libya’s frozen assets.
According to the report, the negotiations were kept away from the Tripoli-based parliament due to the sensitivity of the issue and the expected public backlash.
Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah later denied that his government would take part in what he described as a “crime” against Palestinians, affirming Libya’s commitment to its official stance of rejecting resettlement schemes.
